We are always looking for people to become governors at our schools. You don't have to be a parent at the school as you could be one of our community governors instead.
If you are passionate about making a difference to education and want to volunteer your expertise, then we'd love to hear from you.
Being a governor has many benefits:
- You make a difference to your local community and give something back.
- You get to use and further develop your existing professional skills with an organisation that really benefits from them.
- You could gain valuable experience for your own development.
What are we looking for in our School Governors?
Above all else, you need to be committed to the college and want to make a difference to young people’s lives. If you have experience of governance or education, that is useful, but full training and support is given. This will include in house mentoring and support from the governing body members as well as access to external governor training.
If you have experience in any of the following areas that could be useful:
- The world of education, particularly student progress.
- Monitoring progress against KPIs.
- Leadership and management.
- Human resources and organisation development.
Please note that this is a strategic, rather than operational role, working within the parameters of the Local Governing Body and its Scheme of Delegation within the Trust.
The governing body also consists of representatives from the staff and parents/carers. This ensures we have a wide range of skills and experiences.
How much time does it take up?
There is one meeting of the full governing body every term, which you are expected to attend. There may be additional meetings where matters are discussed in more depth, which would also be useful to attend.
You will be sent papers in advance and be expected to read them before the meetings. You will have access to training courses which you can choose to attend. It would also be appreciated if you could sometimes attend school events or visit the school to find out more about how it works.
